Michael Jackson's outdoor funeral service began at Forest Lawn Glendale Thursday after a more than hour delay, keeping Elizabeth Taylor and other celebs waiting in the stubborn L.A. heat. Final farewell for Jackson Mourners arrived at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the city of Glendale near Los Angeles, California, for the burial of the late singer Michael Jackson seventy days after his death. Los Angeles – Zehn Wochen nach seinem Tod am 25. Juni findet der King of Pop auf dem exklusiven Friedhof Forest Lawn seine letzte Ruhestätte. Am Donnerstagabend (Ortszeit) kamen die Familie und zahlreiche Freunde von Michael Jackson zu einer feierlichen Zeremonie zusammen – mehr oder weniger unter Ausschluss der Öffentlichkeit. Die Feier fand vor dem großen Mausoleum des Friedhofs statt. Jacksons goldener Sarg wurde auf ein Podest gestellt, umrahmt von Fotos und weißen Blumengestecken. Die drei Kinder des Sängers – der zwölfjährige Prince Michael, die elfjährige Paris und der siebenjährige Prince Michael II. – nahmen in der ersten Reihe Platz, in unmittelbarer Nähe von Jacksons Geschwistern sowie seinen Eltern Joe und Katherine. Die Familie traf mit mehr als einer Stunde Verspätung ein, so dass sich der Beginn der Trauerfeier verzögerte. Unter den Gästen waren die Schauspielerin Elizabeth Taylor und "Kevin allein zu Haus"-Darsteller Macaulay Culkin, die beide eng mit Jackson befreundet waren, sowie die Ex-Frau des Sängers, Lisa Marie Presley. Reverend Al Sharpton hielt eine Rede, Gladys Knight sang. Für Fans gab es kein Durchkommen, die örtlichen Behörden in Glendale hatten wegen des erwarteten Medienansturms die Straßen rund um den Prominentenfriedhof bereits Stunden vor der Beisetzung abgeriegelt. Auch der Luftraum wurde gesperrt. Nur wenige Kameras übertrugen bis zum Beginn der Feier abwechselnd Bilder von dem Friedhof. |
