ABBOTTABAD/MANSEHRA: A district council candidate was injured and his five guards and driver were killed in an attack in Baldehr area of Haripur on Friday.

Hazara Deputy Superintendant of Police Akhtar Hayat Gandapur attributed the attack to enmity.

Mohammad Javed, who is contesting the coming elections from Baldehr, was returning home in Basti Buland Khan from a public meeting at Para Pattak when men in a car opened fire on his convoy. The candidate suffered critical injuries.

Mr Javed and another severely injured man were taken to the Haripur District Headquarters Hospital.

“The candidate suffered two bullet wounds in legs and one in abdomen and was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad,” a doctor told reporters.

The attack took place at a railway bridge in Galik village, between Saraesla and Havelian.

The DSP said Mr Javed, in his statements to the police, had blamed his rival Munsif Khan for the attack.

Mr Javed’s father Buland Khan had also been killed over enmity between two tribes which has claimed a large number of lives during the past four decades.

A case was registered and raids carried out to arrest the killers, Haripur district police chief Khurram Rasheed said.
