DSP’s guard arrested for distributing hate material

BAHAWALPUR: The Civil Lines police have arrested the guard of a deputy superintendent police (DSP) when he was distributing hate material on a road.

According to the office of the district police officer, Muhammad Jamil, a resident of tehsil Hasilpur and the gunman of DSP Legal Bahawalpur Shahid Iqbal. He was distributing hate material of religious party at Model Town (C) Chowk along with his accomplice, Yaqoob, when ASI Akhtar arrested him.

During the interrogation, more hate literature, a laptop and CDs were recovered from the possession of the suspects.

The Civil Lines police registered an FIR against the suspects under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

KILLED: A gang leader was killed during an alleged encounter with the police due to the firing of his accomplices.

Derawar police claimed the deceased, Hashmat Ali alias Hashoo, was the leader of an inter-district gang and was involved in 28 cases of robbery, murder and attempted murder.

Police said they were escorting the suspect after the recovery of a snatched motorcycle when they came under fire by his five to six accomplices. The firing left Hashmat injured while the attackers managed to flee from the scene. Hashmat expired at the spot.

Police shifted the body to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for autopsy and registered a murder case against his accomplices.

ELECTION: Syed Masood Ahmed Gilani and Tahir Mahmood Jatoi have been declared president and secretary general, respectively of the Bahawalpur District Bar Association.

Syed Masood Gilani got 505 votes against his rival Syed Tayyab Zamir’s 299 out of total 824 cast votes. Tahir Mahmood Jatoi got 414 votes while the runner-up Shoaib Alam Malik bagged 382 votes. The other 15 office-bearers were earlier declared elected unopposed after the scrutiny of their nomination papers.

In Hasilpur, Syed Kazim Hashmi and Azhar Ehsan were declared elected president and secretary general, respectively of the tehsil bar association.

APNA ROZGAR: Punjab Minister for Cooperatives Malik Iqbal Channar says that over 6,000 lucky winners in the draw for the Chief Minister’s Apna Rozgar Scheme would be handed over vehicles of their choice by Feb 15.

He said the chief minister had allocated 10pc extra vehicles’ quota for the south Punjab and each of the vehicle given under the scheme was about Rs40,000 less than the market rate.

The Bank of Punjab (BoP) regional chief Qaisar Yaqoob Ranjha said 1,365,000 jobless youth had applied for the reserved quota of 6,766 vehicles (interest-free) for the three districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.
